Role definitions
The ownership file discloses many kinds of parties, not just owners. Lenders, consultants, and accounting firms are required filings too. This page reproduces exactly what the CMS data dictionary says about that file: the column definitions verbatim, and the complete list of role values.
What the columns mean, in CMS's words

Values the file publishes without a definition
These are not part of the dictionary's role list above. They appear in the published ownership file itself, in the same role column, and the dictionary does not define them. They are listed here so a role link from a facility page always lands on an answer, even when the honest answer is that no definition exists.

- CMS publishes this value in the ownership file; its data dictionary does not define it. What it means for a given facility is not stated in the published record, and this site does not guess.
What the dictionary does not say
CMS's dictionary lists these role values without defining each one individually, and it does not expand the abbreviation ADP. That ambiguity is in the published source, not introduced here. In federal regulation the term behind ADP is "additional disclosable party", defined at 42 CFR 424.502, which sets out the disclosure requirements these filings satisfy, including parties who lease or operate the facility, lend to it, or manage it under contract. For what a specific filing means, the role string and the regulation are the record; this site does not interpret them.
